Rankings and Research

The TAB Global 1000 is TABInsights' annual dataset covering the world's largest and strongest banks, drawn from audited financial statements and regulatory filings across more than 100 countries. From this dataset we produce the World's Largest Banks ranking, the World's Strongest Banks ranking, and a family of performance benchmarks covering profitability, capital adequacy, asset quality, and balance sheet growth. It is updated annually and forms the quantitative foundation for our rankings, benchmarking, and consulting work.

In addition to the TAB Global 1000, TABInsights publishes the World's Best Retail Banks, the World's Best Corporate, Investment and Wholesale Banks, the World's Best Digital Banks, the World's Best Financial Platforms, the World's Strongest and Largest Islamic Banks. We also publish the BankQuality consumer survey rankings covering the most recommended and most selected retail banks across Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

The World's Strongest Banks ranking is based on a quantitative assessment of financial performance across multiple dimensions including capital adequacy, asset quality, profitability, and balance sheet growth which is drawn from audited annual reports and regulatory filings. Full methodology documentation for each ranking programme is available on the individual ranking methodology pages.

No. TABInsights rankings are determined entirely by financial data and analytical criteria. Commercial relationships with TAB Global including sponsorship, advertising, working group membership, or consulting engagements — have no bearing on ranking outcomes. A bank's position in any TABInsights ranking reflects its independently assessed financial performance, not its commercial relationship with us.

Our financial rankings are fully updated annually, based on the most recent full-year audited financial statements available for each institution. These rankings are also updated on an ongoing basis as new financial data and market intelligence emerge. The BankQuality consumer survey rankings are updated based on an annual survey fieldwork cycle conducted annually in each covered market.

Institutions that have questions about their ranking assessment or wish to flag a potential data error are welcome to contact Wendy Weng at wweng@tab.global. We will review any query against our source data and methodology. Where a genuine data error is identified, we correct the institutions’ score in the ranking.

BankQuality

BankQuality is TABInsights' consumer survey programme measuring the quality of retail banking services as experienced by customers — not as reported by banks. BankQuality surveys are conducted with nationally representative panels of retail banking customers across Asia Pacific and the Middle East, producing country-level rankings of the most recommended and most selected banks, digital-only banks, and financial platforms. BankQuality scores are based entirely on independent consumer responses and cannot be influenced by the institutions being assessed.

The TABInsights financial rankings measure institutional performance using audited financial data — balance sheet strength, profitability, capital adequacy, and asset quality. BankQuality measures customer experience and satisfaction — how retail banking customers rate their bank on service quality, product range, digital channels, and the likelihood that they would recommend their bank to others. The two programmes are complementary: one measures what a bank achieves financially, the other measures what its customers experience.

Research and Consulting Standards

TABInsights operates as an independent third party. Our conclusions reflect what the evidence shows, regardless of direction. We do not adjust findings to suit client preferences, commercial relationships, or desired outcomes. When we undertake a benchmarking or consulting engagement, the deliverable is an honest assessment of what the data supports — nothing more, and nothing less. Where findings do not support a particular claim or position, we say so. Clients who engage us for research that may be used externally including in marketing, investor communications, or public statements receive findings that can only be cited accurately and in full, including the methodology, assumptions, and limitations of the study. TABInsights will not support or certify any market position or leadership claim that is not supported by the underlying research.

No. Bank-specific performance data, KPIs, and operational metrics shared by clients in the context of a benchmarking or consulting engagement are never disclosed to third parties, never shared with peer institutions, and never used in published research in a form that could identify the source. Where industry-level findings draw on data contributed by multiple institutions, that data is aggregated and sanitised before use. Client-specific analysis remains confidential and is not published to third parties. This commitment is the foundation of the trust that institutions have placed in TABInsights for more than 25 years.
